Loading your own plug-ins into Notes 8

QuickImage Notes 8 is build using Lotus Expeditor which is an Eclipse RCP application. So theoretically you should be able to load your own plug-ins (which might not even be Notes related). Of course this is utterly not supported <g>. The functionality to point to an Eclipse Updates site is by default switched off. To switch it on locate this file:
<notes install dir>\framework\rcp\plugin_customization.ini

Add one line:
com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui=true

and restart the Notes client. You will get access to the standard Eclipse Update site dialog here:

It would be interesting to hear what plug-ins work (Azureus anyone)

Comments

Gravatar Image1 - It's not *supported*? But the Domino server is specifically architected to permit provisioning of plug-ins from Domino itself. So clearly there's SOMETHING supported there.

Gravatar Image2 - @Nathan: Not in the Beta. And "not supported" doesn't mean "does not work". It's just that you do that on your own risk.

Gravatar Image3 - Thank you so much Stephan. Half an hour ago I thought if this might be possible, but didn't find any valuable information. Until now. Keep the good work up. Thanks again!

Gravatar Image4 - IBM has posted several articles on how to do it. They show exactly how to get your new/existing plug-ins to work in Notes8 including how to setup Notes8 as the target platform for the Eclipse IDE. I think non Notes related apps are one of the killer features of the Notes8 client whether they integrate as composite apps or not.
